Offering products in your photography business doesn’t mean turning into a pushy salesperson. (Oh, I've said that before!) Done well, selling is just another form of great service. Here’s how to make it feel effortless and truly valuable — for both you and your clients :) 1. Start with the why Don’t jump straight into product talk. In your interactions with clients, help them understand why printing matters. Share stories, examples, and your own philosophy. Be the person who loves their products! Explain how an album becomes a family heirloom. How a framed To View More >>
I've just finished re-watching Barry Schwartz's Ted Talk on The Paradox of Choice. He makes this very important point: Too much choice produces paralysis. Offer people too much choice and they'll find it very difficult to choose at all. Yes, at Queensberry we offer a lot of choice! We know that. We do it because every photographer is different. And we agree, as Barry Schwartz says, that it can be difficult to get your head around. But … if you want to sell products, you need to make the effort, not leave it to your customers. As our designer friend Donna says, to run a design To View More >>

Selling albums online is now common, and for very good reason. If you’re shooting destination or out-of-town weddings, chances are you’ll never see clients except on the big day. Even people who live on the other side of the city can face a big commute every time they come to see you. This becomes more of an issue the more successful you are, as people will be booking you as a result of referrals and your reputation—not because you’re handy and don’t charge too much! But selling online can be more difficult than in the studio. First, it’s harder to get people To View More >>

New square frames! After feedback on our Facebook group, Queensberry Insider, we realised we needed more square sizes in our range. They're a great idea for multi-aperture displays, as in the graphic, and also in frame groupings. We've launched three new sizes to fill the gaps: 16x16, 20x20 and 24x24. The new sizes offer all our options — matted, un-matted, floating (torn-edge) and mounted canvas. You can order frame corners here or order a completed sample frame here. We offer 25% sample discount on frames, and regular customers can earn Tier Discount on their To View More >>

Our new Designer Album Box is the perfect way to present your albums. Order it as an optional extra in place of our standard presentation boxes and/or bags. Here are the details: How do I order? On the second page of the album set-up menu in Workspace you'll be asked how you want to present the album. Select Designer Album Box and the material colour. You can order the box plain or with an embossing — either Companion embossing (same as on the album) or Studio embossing. What materials and colours are available? We're selling more smaller albums these days, but we're stoked to see people still opting for the big books! Our 18x10 albums allow for lots of images, and high impact story-telling with their radical panoramic pages. And they translate perfectly into copy albums for parents and loved ones too. (If you've included lots of small images we recommend 10in copies for albums of this size.) This 18x10 is by husband and wife team Neil and Katherine of Tandem Photography, Christchurch, New Zealand. Micro-Leather is our most popular cover material, right up there with genuine Classic Leather, and it’s now available as an upgrade for Studio Boxes. These boxes look and feel so beautiful, and we know your clients will love them. You can order them with all the standard Studio Box options (USB, bow closure and embossing). The interiors are also Micro Leather, a beautiful touch that really does scream luxury. They are available in depths to suit 10, 15, 20 and 25 mats. Choose from our six Micro Leather colours: Onyx, Shadow, Ink, Powder Blue, Eggshell To View More >>

We normally supply our albums in the standard silver-grey leaf-and-crown presentation box, which is included in the price. But sometimes you need a bit more, which is why we also offer an optional Display Box (pictured). Display Boxes have been a popular upgrade for years. They're a great add-on to any album order, and now we're offering them for 10x10 albums (previously only 12x12 and larger) and in both Pearl and Carbon Buckram. We also introducing more depth options, so we can make them a snugger fit no matter how many pages in your album. To View More >>

Photographer Amanda King from ‘By the Horns’ lives on a sheep and beef farm in rural Canterbury, New Zealand. Her career took a turn after she took a photo of a "big hairy cow" to display in her living room. Her friends loved her 40x30 print and requested copies for themselves. She sensed an opportunity, and within nine weeks had built up a 16,000 following on Facebook. We asked Amanda about her new business venture, what inspires her about rural animals and a bit about the way she chooses to display her work. Amanda had been a school teacher for about To View More >>

Isn't technology great? A decade ago "photo books" were a wonder. I can create one-off books! Printed on both sides! Like a glossy magazine! We loved them too, and launched Q Books in 2010. But now photo books are … just a glossy magazine! Commodity products with prices to match. Mostly sold direct to consumers, meaning very little value in them for photographers… Something for people who get their photography on a flashdrive. Q Books still look great, as beautifully printed and bound as our albums, but for a couple of years the trend has been To View More >>
